Product Description:
The essential saddlebag reference for getting the most out of your horseback riding adventures! Written with both the experienced and the casual rider in mind, Florida on Horseback is the first volume of a complete guide to riding on public land in Florida. From Ocala (the state’s "Horse Capital”) to the Everglades, veteran equestrian Cornelia Henderson has carefully researched and ridden every trail included in this book. Henderson provides the essentials for each horseback adventure: a full description of each trail, directions, and photographs, as well as a quick-reference rating system for each trail and its facilities and icons addressing such issues as sun exposure, difficulty level, and camping accommodations. For those without a horse of their own, nearby horse rental venues are suggested. An overview of the ecosystems, foliage, and wildlife to be found in each area rounds out the coverage. Whether discovering the south and central wilds of the state or investigating previously unknown places close to home, readers will find that Henderson’s expert advice will enable tourists and seasoned horse enthusiasts alike to confidently explore the beauty of Florida from horseback.

Advertized as a "Trail Rider's Guide," this book lacks the most important information a rider could want - maps of the trails! Reading her opinion of each trail is similar to reading movie reviews by critics: you may or may not agree with them. I already found several mistakes regarding trails near where I live (there is a map for Lake Park, I have one!) I have since found that a far better directory and maps are available from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Greenways ... Read More
